I can't find a lot of info on this humorous documentary, which shows a copyright date of 1977 in its opening credits, beyond this:

Release history:
Canada 1977 (Toronto Film Festival)
Denmark 1979
USA 1980
Finland 1982

Produced by High Wire Production
Distributed by Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) (1981) (USA) (TV) (broadcast premiere); New Line Cinema (1980) (USA) (all media)

GIZMO! is "A documentary about some of the thousands of inventions that did things we never thought needed doing, or in ways we never considered doing them. A respectful, yet humorous tribute to the inventors whose vision, however far-reaching, was just a little off the mark." (imdb.com)

Can anyone give me a yes/no on its actual copyright status?

If the copyright notice is valid, then the renewal is automatic, and it's not public domain.

Thanks, skybandit. The opening-credits statement is: "Copyright (c) MCMLXXVII by High Wire Production Company". Does this constitute a valid notice?
